Want to know how to summon familiars? Here is the basic information you will need to know to get started.
1. First you must complete the Wolf Whistle Quest to begin using the summoning skill. Start the quest by speaking to Pikkupstix in Taverly.
2. Create a summoning pouch. You will need a empty pouch and a list of ingredients needed for the familiar you want to create. Pouches and spirit shards can be purchased from the shops. For example: To create a spirit wolf pouch you will need 7 spirit shards, a gold charm and wolf bones.
3. Now you will need to take your ingredients to a summoning obelisk. These are located in different locations around Runescape. You can also use these obelisks to recharge your summoning level.

Gu'Tanoth - Before the gates into Gu'Tanoth
Mort Myre - Nature spirits grotto
Isafdar - Inside underground pass
Brimhaven - West of Brimhaven
Piscatoris - South of fishing colony
Kharidian Desert - South-West of Pollnivneach
4. Now you can summon your familiar by right clicking on the pouch and selecting 'Summon'. Make sure you are in an area that allows summoning.

Falador (excluding the White Knights' Castle)
Lumbridge (excluding Lumbridge Castle courtyard)
The Grand Exchange
Seers' Village
The Barrows
The Mage Training Arena
Where is the best place to get summoning charms?
You should get a lot of these dropped from Fire Giants, Ice Giants, Ogres, Jogres and Blue Dragons.
